Dairy Pool Requirements

  1. Bulk tank with capacity for (5) milkings in flush is recommended. A tank with capacity for (4) milkings is required.
  2. Certified organic by an USDA Accredited Certification agency. (See "Certification Agencies" for contact information or contact our office for recommendations).
  3. Member of CROPP and the ability to abide by the membership requirements.
  4. Member of cooperating milk handler and the ability to abide by membership requirements.
  5. For three months prior to the first shipment of organic milk, the somatic cell average must be below 400,000.
  6. Grade A IMS milk, with good quality history.
  7. Location must be a reasonable distance to present route or part of a regional pool.
  8. Equity requirement equal to 5.5% of base annual income.
  9. Willingness to produce milk without antibiotics, hormones or synthetic pesticides.
  10. CROPP members must have a Pasture Plan with the goal to optimize the pasturing component of their operation. The dairy pool policy is 30% minimum DMI during grazing season.
  11. The CROPP Dairy Pool has a supply management policy in place to stabilize supply and member pay price.
  12. Coordinate with CROPP a timetable for qualifying as organic that fits into the Cooperative's overall milk plan.
